DENVER — RTD is continuing its tests for its new A Line, the train that will take passengers from downtown Denver to Denver International Airport.
The trains are being tested at the maximum speed of 79 mph, about 25 mph above Light Rail.
The trains have been traveling up to 79 mph along Pena Boulevard for the past couple of months. But ramping up speeds between the 40th and Airport station to 40th Avenue and York Street will mean trains will be traveling faster through crossings.
The testing is being done under the watchful eye of federal inspectors, to make sure crossing gates are working properly and the public is safe.
The trains will make the 22-mile trek from Union Station to DIA in about 30 minutes. The line is scheduled to open in the spring.
