NEWTOWN, Conn. — The gunman who murdered 20 first graders and six adults at a Connecticut elementary school may have snapped because his mother planned to commit him to a psychiatric facility.

That’s according to a report from Tuesday.

Adam Lanza, 20, shot and killed his mother while she slept Friday morning. Then he went to Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, shot his way into the building and carried out the massacre according to police. reports the information about a possible motive comes from someone in the Newtown area who is familiar with the Lanza family as well as families of some of the victims.

A senior law enforcement official involved in the investigation confirmed to that Lanza’s anger at his mother over plans for “his future mental health treatment” is being looked at as a possible motive for the deadly shooting.
