FREDERICK, Colo. — A recall election in Frederick set a record for most ballots cast in the town’s history, officials said.

Frederick’s mayor, Tony Carey, and four trustees — Salvatore “Sam” DeSantis, Rocky Figurilli, Donna Hudziak and Fred Skates — were affirmed and the city said they will all keep their seats.

In all, 1,984 ballots were processed. There are 8,323 registered voters in the town.

The idea of a Sonic Drive-In coming to town outraged enough citizens to prompt the recall election that cost the town about $20,000.

The results will become official on Sept. 14 after absentee and overseas military ballots are counted.
