DENVER -- It is something that is impacting people across the country.
Users of Green Dot -- the prepaid debit card endorsed by Steve Harvey -- are reporting their accounts have been frozen after getting their tax refund deposited into them.
Sarah Woolman is one of those impacted and she contacted the FOX31 Denver Problem Solvers for help.
“I’m very frustrated. I got children. It’s the fact I’m not getting my tax money,” Wollman said. “It’s almost $6,000 so, yeah, it’s frustrating."
Woolman is not alone with her complaint. People from Texas to Michigan have complained of a similar problem.
“We’ll check into the situation," a Green Dot spokesman said.
Analysts said Green Dot is likely being extra careful, requiring new customers to show additional identification before allowing them access to tax refunds. Tax fraud is a growing industry and prepaid cards often allow thieves to get away.
Woolman later said she was told her money “might” be available next week. She hopes this is a lesson for the next customer and, of course, she wants her money.
“It doesn't work at an ATM. It doesn't work anywhere,” Woolman said.
