DENVER -- We went through three years of crime data for the city of Denver to find out where the safest, and least-safe, neighborhoods were.
Using data from Denver Police from 2009 to 2013, we were able to examine Denver's neighborhoods according to four kinds of crime: aggravated assaults, bike thefts, thefts from motor vehicles and vehicle theft.

We took totals from the five years and mapped them across the city. In many ways the maps reflect the social and economic disparities that exist in Denver.
Montbello consistently ranks high for crime in Denver, but it is also one of the poorer neighborhoods. Whereas, the Country Club, University and Hilltop neighborhoods have the least amount of crime.
Understandably neighborhoods closer to downtown have a higher crime rate because of the population density.
The No. 1 spot for stolen cars in Denver is the Westwood neighborhood near Alameda and Federal. Since 2009, 711 vehicles were reported stolen in that neighborhood.
Capitol Hill had 652 followed by Five Points with 649.
Denver Police say they have investigated more than 7,200 aggravated assaults in the city since 2009.
Nick Floyd was one of those cases. He was attacked after a night out in Lodo on New Year's Eve.
Downtown Denver had 391 aggravated assaults in the period we examined. Montbello had 329 and Five Points took the No. 1 spot with 444.
Denver's safest neighborhoods
We also wanted to know which neighborhoods were the safest. Pulling statistics from the city, we found the five safest neighborhoods started out with Southmoor Park near S. Monaco Parkway and E. Hampden Avenue.
This neighborhood had a total of 199 crime reports in the year 2013. Rosedale followed with 161 total crime reports. No. 3 was one of the oldest neighborhoods in Denver, Country Club. There were only 125 crime reports in 2013.
Indian Creek came in at No. 2 with 107 crimes during 2013.
At the top spot is Wellshire off S. Colorado Boulevard and E. Yale Avenue. There were just 79 crimes reported there last year.
