DENVER — Denver is growing and at 17th and Wewatta streets, a busy construction area is getting a little too close for comfort for some, including Stuart Holden.
He reached out to the FOX31 Problem Solvers after having trouble getting through to city officials to lodge a complaint about what he views as unsafe construction practices.
“They have dump trucks. They drive them across the sidewalk into this construction site. It doesn’t look like a safe thing that’s going on,” Holden said.
Holden took video showing RTD buses straining to make a right turn because a truck pulling equipment was in the way.
“Denver Public Works Right Of Way services is committed to making sure the public right-of-way is safe at all times,” Denver Public Works said in a statement. “With so many construction projects happening in our city, we always encourage people to report conditions they may feel are unsafe, so we can investigate further.”
City officials also said they are investigating whether there is any damage to city sidewalks and whether the truck featured in the video is associated with any major projects in the area.
Anyone with safety concerns about any type of construction should call the city help line at 311.
