COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The 38th and final Colorado Balloon Classic ended with a dud Monday when high winds prevented up to 77 hot air balloons from lifting off in Memorial Park.
UPDATE: Officials at the Balloon Classic confirm that the balloons will not be flying today.

It was announced two weeks ago the event was being discontinued after organizers cited city politics within the city, including “increasingly rigid” special events procedures and an “onerous” city sponsorship application as reasons for ending the heavily attended event.
The event, a Colorado Springs tradition since 1977, attracts up to 200,000 people over the three-day Labor Day weekend.
