DENVER — A bill to allow hunters to wear bright pink is on its way to Gov. John Hickenlooper after receiving approval in the Colorado House without debate Tuesday. It previously passed the Senate.

The bill adds fluorescent pink as an approved color for hunters to wear with their camouflage gear. Blaze orange has been the only acceptable color so far for safety issues.

State Sen. Kerry Donovan sponsored the bill, saying she wanted to give women more options.

“I want to send the message that women belong in hunting,” Donovan said in February. “I grew up in the hand-me-downs of my dad and my brothers.”

Bright pink is just as safe as blaze orange, Donovan said, and the Department of Parks and Wildlife agreed, endorsing the bill.

Hickenlooper is expected to sign the bill into law.
