DENVER — Weld County Republican Ken Buck defeated Democrat Vic Meyers on Tuesday to win an open race in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District.

Buck will succeed Republican Rep. Cory Gardner of Yuma, who withdrew to launch his successful bid for Democratic Sen. Mark Udall’s seat.

Buck lost a painfully close Senate race to Democrat Michael Bennet in 2010.

Buck originally announced plans to take on Udall himself, but stepped aside when Gardner announced his campaign.

Buck beat Meyers 66 percent to 28 percent.
