DENVER -- RTD, the Colorado Department of Transportation and several other organizations teamed up to Stand Up for Transportation Thursday.

It's a day of national advocacy to urge Congress to pass a long-term funding bill for public transportation. The current funding bill expires May 31.

The idea is to make sure programs are funded to do everything from increase public transit options for residents of cities to fixing crumbling roads and bridges.

Dozens of people gathered in LoDo and marched from 16th and Market to a rally at the new Union Station, which was renovated in large part thanks to federal funds.

There were 350 events held in cities across the country Thursday.
