JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. -- Ah, summer vacation. A time for kids to spend time in their parents' basement playing video games.
Scott Romano, 17, is in the basement, too. But he’s not playing a game. He’s spending the summer, and fall, working on a political campaign.
“Her name is Mary Parker. She’s running for Colorado House District 22,” Romano proudly states.
And, a little clarity here. Romano isn’t an intern. He’s not working for college credit. Romano is Parker’s campaign manager. His job is twofold.
“Running the office and getting her elected," he said.
Romano is spearheading Parker’s run. Parker is very pleased Romano is on board.
"He’s just there every day, enthusiastic, determined that this can be a winning campaign.” Parker said.
Romano knows he's young, and kids about it, but this Democratic Doogie Houser knows he eventually might like to work in government.
"Government is such a place where so much change can happen, but the dysfunction of it worries me," he said.
Romano just might have political chops. Can you say “President Romano?"
“Maybe," he says.
