LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Police in Lakewood are searching for a man they say is a sexually violent predator and is considered to be dangerous to the public.

Officers were asking for the public's help in locating Nick Medina, who was released from the Colorado Department of Corrections in June.

Medina was required to register where he would be living permanently with police due to his past record. The 38-year-old was convicted of sexually assaulting a child, and is known to be actively involved with gang activity, according to police.

When police arrived at 5601 W. Colfax Avenue, Unit 7 during a random check, they found Medina was missing. Authorities said he left the Lakewood residence without notifying anyone.

There are two warrants currently out for Medina's arrest. Police advise that the public should not attempt to contact him.

If anyone who sees, has information about or knows the whereabouts of Medina, you are asked to call Lakewood police at (303) 987-7111.
