GREELEY, Colo. — Police in Greeley said officers shot and killed an armed man early Friday morning after responding to a call of a woman having gunshot wounds.

The incident happened about 6:30 a.m. in the 600 block of 15th Avenue Court. Police said a woman covered in blood was at the door of a residence seeking help.

Officers then responded moments later to a report of shots being fired from a different caller who said the gunfire came from inside a house across the street from where the woman had sought help.

Officers then saw an adult man in the street in the middle of the street carrying a handgun. He was ordered to drop the gun but refused. The man was then shot by the officers.

He was taken to North Colorado Medical Center where he died. The woman also was taken to North Colorado Medical Center to undergo surgery for her wounds.

No officers were injured. The names of the suspect and victim were not released.

The Weld County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the shooting because it was officer-involved.
