DENVER — A group of food truck workers say they were attacked on the Rockies’ home opener at 19th and Market streets near Coors Field on Friday. The Denver Police Department is investigating the assault and says it hasn’t ruled out the possibility it was racially motivated.

“He kept using the ‘N’ word,” said Terrance Gibbons, owner of Big T’s Barbeque. “He kept saying that I didn’t really know what it was like to be black.”

Gibbons says a man and his friends ordered food late Friday night. The man who allegedly yelled racial slurs was drunk.

“I was just like you know what, I’m not going to serve you. Please leave. You’re not going to get anything from me,” Gibbons said.

Gibbons says the man and his friends left.  A minute later, the man punched a co-worker.  When Gibbons tried diffusing the situation, he says the man shoved him into a parked SUV.

He rushed me from behind and hit me hard enough to where when I hit the SUV my head went through the glass,” Gibbons said.

Gibbons has a concussion, cuts and bruises.

Police say they have seen the social media campaign from Gibbons’ friends urging the public to identify the man.

No arrests have been made.
