BOULDER, Colo. — An officer stopped what was said to be a sexual assault in progress near a bus stop on Monday afternoon, the Boulder Police Department said.

Police said that at about 5:50 p.m., an officer was flagged down by someone who was concerned a potential sexual assault was taking place near the bus stop on the west side of the King Sooper’s parking lot at 30th Street and Arapahoe Avenue.

The officer then saw the alleged assault taking place, intervened and arrested the suspect, 57-year-old Timothy Bowman.

An adult woman, who was not identified, said she met Bowman for the first time earlier in the day after she got off the bus at 30th and Arapahoe. She told police that the two consumed alcohol and investigators believe she was incapacitated at the time of the assault.

Bowman was booked into the Boulder County Jail on one count of sexual assault where the victim was physically helpless.
