GARDEN RIDGE, Texas — Authorities in Texas Said Friday preliminary autopsy results indicate Leanne Hecht Bearden committed suicide.

The 33-year-old Colorado woman’s sudden disappearance about a month ago spurred an extensive search.

Bearden was last seen leaving her in-laws’ house in Garden Ridge, Texas, which is just northeast of San Antonio, on Jan. 17. She and her husband had recently returned to the United States after a 22-month trek that she extensively documented in a blog.

They were celebrating the holidays with his family and getting ready to return to Denver when she vanished.

In a news release linked to on the city’s Facebook page, Garden Ridge Police Chief Donna O’Conner said authorities received a call around 10:15 a.m. MST Thursday about a body “in a wooded area” in that community.

O’Conner said responding officers “located what we believe to be the body of Leanne Bearden.”

Friday he said she apparently died from asphyxiation by hanging. He also says her death happened a short time after she left the house.
