PARKER, Colo. -- A new plan for a shuttered King Soopers store in the Cottonwood Plaza on Highway 83, is being met with ‘bad-vibes’ by a pizza parlor which moved in back in 1996.
Chris Wedemeyer and his brother worked at the restaurant for years until buying the eatery in 2000. They have built up a loyal customer base over the years and now say some plans they got Friday have them worried about their future.
“We have held out at this plaza through the years, hoping King Soopers would reopen their store or make improvements,” said Wedemeyer. “We thought these plans would hold promise for us when it comes to increased business, but now we are being told our location in a strip at the plaza will be torn down for eight parking spaces, that is just dumb!”
One other business along with Tonti’s is being offered a new spot in the one strip which King’s indicates will stay, but the pizza maker says his five year lease will be voided and he will be offered a new location for triple the rent.
Customers we spoke with say they love the food and like the owner had hoped improvements at the plaza would include improvements for businesses they love.
King Soopers indicates they have not approved any site plans, there are no contracts or negotiations under way and they say they plan to be fair to and work with businesses that could be affected.
