AURORA, Colo. — A woman in a wheelchair was hit and killed near a busy intersection in Aurora Friday afternoon.

It happened at East Mississippi Avenue and South Peoria Street at 1:45 p.m.

Police say a meat delivery truck was driving out of the shopping center. Witnesses say the driver stopped at the stop sign before making a right turn to go northbound on Peoria.

A 50-year-old woman in a motorized wheelchair was on the sidewalk next to the driveway. Police say the truck driver didn’t see the wheelchair on the sidewalk.

The truck hit the wheelchair and dragged it and the victim into the street. The truck then ran over the woman.

The truck driver stayed at the scene of the crash.

Northbound Peoria was closed at Mississippi during the police investigation.
