ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — A 54-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident while trying to cross Belleview Avenue on Wednesday night, the Englewood Police Department said.
The accident happened about 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of West Belleview Avenue and South Federal Boulevard. Police said the Hispanic man was struck by a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Belleview at a high rate of speed.
The victim was thrown into the eastbound lanes of traffic and the driver continues driving on Belleview, police said.
Investigators were able to use debris at the scene to determine the make and model of the suspect’s vehicle.
After canvassing a neighborhood and locating a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle, police found the 28-year-old male suspect, who police said admitted to driving the vehicle, striking the pedestrian and fleeing the scene.
Police said the suspect admitted he had been drinking alcohol and police said he displayed other signs of intoxication.
He was taken into custody and booked into the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Detention Facility on a vehicular homicide charge and other charges.
