AURORA, Colo. -- A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle on northbound I-225 north of East Sixth Avenue on Thursday night, the Aurora Police Department said.

The crash happened just after 10 p.m. Police said the adult male was found laying in the northbound lanes of the interstate when officers arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the man was trying to cross from the west side of the interstate to the east side when he was hit by a vehicle. The man then was hit by two other vehicles, police said.

Police said alcohol and excessive speed by the drivers were not contributing factors.

The interstate was closed for several hours but reopened early Friday morning. The name, age and gender of the victim were not released by police.
