One killed, trooper and second person injured in I-70 crash near Silt

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. — One person was killed and two others, including a Colorado State Patrol trooper, were injured in a crash near Silt in Garfield County on Wednesday evening.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said the trooper made a traffic stop on westbound Interstate 70 about 5:30 p.m.

Another vehicle crashed into the vehicle that was stopped, the sheriff’s office said. The driver in the vehicle the trooper stopped was killed.

The trooper and the second driver were being treated at a hospital. Their conditions are not known.

The name, age and gender of the person who was killed were not released.

Westbound I-70 was closed at mile marker 97 and an eight-mile detour was put in place for the investigation.
