DENVER -- One person went to the hospital and two people were in custody after a shooting late Wednesday at an RTD light rail station at the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver.

It happened at the Auraria West Station at 1250 Fifth St. A West Rail Line train was stopped at the platform where police were investigating the crime scene.

According to Denver Police, a suspect attempted to rob a group of victims at gunpoint and struck one of the victims in the head with a handgun while on the train.

After exiting the train at the Auraria West Station, the suspect fired one round from the handgun and the victims were able to knock the gun from the suspect's hand, according to Denver Police.

One of the listed victims then picked up the weapon that was dropped and fired it, striking the suspect.

The condition of the person who was shot was not released.

The station was closed during the police investigation, though trains were allowed to continue to move, but couldn't stop at the station.
