Officer shoots, critically injures a man during traffic stop in Northglenn

NORTHGLENN, Colo. – A police officer in Northglenn shot and injured a suspect at a traffic stop early Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at 1:10 a.m. during a traffic stop in the 11200 block of Huron Street, according to a Northglenn Police Commander.

During the traffic stop a man reportedly exited the vehicle began firing at one of the officers.  Police said, that officer was struck multiple times and returned fire, striking the suspect.

The unidentified police officer was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released, officials reported.

The suspect was also taken to a local hospital and remains in critical condition. The suspect’s identity has not yet been released by authorities.

According to reports, there have been three officer-involved shootings in the department in the past 12 months, none have been fatal.

The incident remained under investigation.
