TRINIDAD, Colo. — A shooting at the Almar Trailer Park in Trinidad involved a police officer on Saturday.

Police said they received a report of an intruder in a vacant trailer at the park, at 9:18 a.m.

A police officer was searching the trailer and found a man in one of the rooms.

Police officers said the officer told the man to get on the ground, and he did. But when the officer began to use his radio to update the communications center, the man jumped up and ran, KRDO reported.

Then the officer told the man to stop running and the man then turned around and pointed a gun at the officer, police said.

Authorities said the officer shot the man and then called an ambulance.

The police officer involved has not been identified.

The man who was shot is also not being identified but he was to Mt. San Rafael Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The police officer was wearing a body camera, and that footage will be reviewed while the incident is being investigated by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
