MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman who fell under the wheels of her own car after losing control and striking another person in the parking lot of a Tennessee Wal-Mart has died, according to authorities.

Officers rushed to the scene Tuesday afternoon and found the driver, 74-year-old Peggy Rose, critically injured outside the Wal-Mart store.

Police believe Rose was backing up at a high rate of speed with her left side door open when she hit a pedestrian. The impact knocked that person into the front undercarriage of another vehicle.

At some point, Rose fell out of the driver’s seat and was run over by her own vehicle, which kept moving through the parking lot until it struck a parked car.

Rose and the other person were rushed to the hospital. Rose later died from her injuries but the other victim was downgraded to noncritical condition.
