MINNEAPOLIS — Mackenzie Moretter has Sotos Syndrome — a condition that left her with brain damage and socialization problems as a young child.

“I have a hard time making friends at school,” she told WCCO.

Recently, her mother sent invitations to Mackenzie’s classmates for her 10th birthday party — but no one RSVPed, she said.

So Mackenzie’s mom reached out to local residents on Facebook. Hundreds of people turned up to help celebrate Mackenzie’s big day — including professional athletes and performers dressed as Disney characters.

The City of Shakopee even declared April 18 as “Mackenzie Moretter Day.”

All together, about 400 people came to join Mackenzie. Her parents said she can keep a few gifts and will donate the rest to charity.
