BENZIE COUNTY, Mich. — Every dog has its day. And thanks to the U.S. Coast Guard, a northern Michigan dog will live to see another one.

On Tuesday, a group of officers worked to save a yellow Labrador from freezing Lake Michigan. Two even jumped into the water.

“They put a line on me and from there I just asked if I jump in here are you going to be able to bring me back,” Petty Officer Tim Putnam said. “And they said yes, so I’m like roger that, I’m jumping in.”

The rescue took just less than an hour. The dog was reunited with her owner on Tuesday night.
