LIVINGSTON, Tex. — A 17-year-old Texas student was suspended from school and sent to an alternative school after he says he accidentally brought a beer to school.

The boy’s mother, Christi Seale, told KTRK-TV that he confused the beer can for a soda can and packed it in his lunch.

“He was in a hurry, running late. We were talking about school and he put it all together and took off for school,” she said.

At school Chaz realized his mistake and gave the unopened beer to a teacher. The teacher reported it to the principal who then suspended Chaz for three days and sent him to an alternative school for two months.

“I gave it to the teacher, thinking I wouldn’t get in trouble, and I got in trouble,” Chaz told the station.

The school district said the principal followed the district’s procedures.

Seale said she will appeal the decision.
