Six injured in shooting at FedEx facility in Georgia; suspect dead

KENNESAW, Ga. — Six people were wounded Tuesday morning in a shooting at a FedEx facility outside of Atlanta, officials said.

Cobb County Police said the suspect who was at large was dead and his body was found on the FedEx property. Police say he die dfrom an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“We have multiple victims at this time that have been transported to a local area hospital,” Public Information Officer Mike Bowman said in a statement.

“We have multiple agencies assisting us with this incident. The area around the building has been secured and the officers are now clearing the incident location. This is still an active and fluid situation.”

A caller alerted police to the shooting at 3:54 a.m. MDT at the facility, Bowman said. It is located about a 25-mile drive northwest of downtown Atlanta.

The six injured people were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where at least one person was undergoing surgery, hospital spokesman Tyler Pearson said.

“We can confirm that an incident occurred early Tuesday morning at a FedEx Ground facility in Kennesaw, Georgia,” FedEx said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and with their families and friends.  We are grateful for the assistance of law enforcement.  The situation is now stabilized and we are focused on the needs of our team members and cooperating with the law enforcement investigation of this tragedy.”
