SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A New York state Senator says that authorities should consider “torturing” a 19-year-old Boston Marathon bomb suspect.
Shortly after Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was taken into custody on April 19 in Boston after a standoff with police, Republican State Senator Greg Ball tweeted the following:
According to the Journal News website lohud.com, Ball, a Republican who represents the 40th Senate District, declined to back off on his statement, saying that people who find the tweet offensive needed to look at themselves.
“If people find that offensive, they’re going to have to check their own conscience,” he said.
On April 20, Ball focused more on the death penalty, and said he believes his constituents should demand the government be tough on criminals with terrorist inclinations:
“Playing paddy cake with mass murdering killers is not effective in my opinion,” he told the newspaper.
