LEXINGTON, N.C. -- A North Carolina mother has decided to make a public display of solidarity for her daughter by wearing a dress that got the daughter into trouble on the last day of school this year.
According to WGHP-TV, Violet Burkhart wore a dress on the last day of her senior year at Central Davidson High School.
Two hours before the day ended, a teacher pulled Violet out of class and measured her dress in the hallway. The teacher said the dress was half an inch short and Violet would have to go home and change.
“I literally looked back at the clock and I’m thinking, it’s 1 in the afternoon on her last day of her senior year. My daughter — it’s supposed to be one of her best days and she’s there crying,” said Amy Redwine, Violet’s mother.
Redwine said Violet has worn the dress to school before with no problems.
She's decided to wear the same dress on graduation Saturday.
“If her dress is too short, then my dress is too short and I’m going to wear it in front of everybody and be proud just like she should have been able to on her last day,” said Redwine.
