FORT WORTH, Texas — A mother and her infant son were found dead, with their throats slit, in their home in Fort Worth, Texas.

Shanna Vandewege and her family had recently moved to Fort Worth from Colorado. Vandewege went to high school in Walsh, in southeastern Colorado, a family friend said.

It was just after Thanksgiving when Vandewege posted a photo with her husband Craig by her side and their 3-month-old son Deidrek.

According to the medical examiner, Vandewege and her infant son were found lifeless in bed inside their home.

The medical examiner has ruled the baby’s death was caused by a cut to his neck. Neighbors described them as friendly and good neighbors.

They said they never saw anything suspicious at the home until Thursday night, when police cars lined their street.

“This is just shocking this is a quiet neighborhood, we don’t have any problems, not even any thefts that I know of,” a neighbor told KTVT.

Fort Worth police said they received a call from Saginaw police that a man had come home to find the bodies.

Homicide detectives have not made an arrest — and are not ruling anyone out as a possible suspect.

“Was it somebody personal, or is there someone in the neighborhood, that someone is casing this neighborhood?” KTVT quoted one resident as asking.

Police have not released any information about a potential suspect.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral costs and other expenses.
