MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State University officials apologized for their marching band’s halftime routine during Saturday’s season opener.
The band made a formation depicting the Starship Enterprise from “Star Trek” attacking a Kansas Jayhawk, the school’s biggest rival, during halftime against South Dakota.
But many thought the spaceship wound up resembling male genitalia.
Uh… interesting formation for the Kansas State band. pic.twitter.com/SB36JBFEEc

After social media lit up about the performance, the band director and the school president apologized.
We apologize for anyone offended by our halftime performance depicting the starship enterprise and the Jayhawk mascot.

Band director Frank Tracz said the band’s set formation was not meant to be “anything other than the Enterprise and the Jayhawk in battle.”
Tracz said he did not mean to disrespect the University of Kansas.
