DAVENPORT, Iowa — On Saturday, Alice “Nonie” Dubes, 90, and Vivian Doyack, 91, got married in Iowa after being together the past 72 years, the Quad City Times reported.

The women, who held hands in their wheelchairs during the ceremony, met in Yale, Iowa, and moved to Davenport in 1947. Doyack was an elementary school teacher and Dubes did payroll.

The women have traveled to all 50 states, all of the provinces in Canada and to England twice.

“We’ve had a good time,” Dubes said.

Same-sex marriage became legal in Iowa in 2009.

Said officiant Rev. Linda Hunsaker during the ceremony: “This is a celebration of something that should have happened a very long time ago.”
