MADISON, Wis. — Former Denver Bronco Montee Ball has been arrested, accused of battering his girlfriend early Friday morning.

The Madison Police Department said it responded to a downtown hotel on report of a disturbance.

A 20-year-old woman told police her boyfriend, Ball, had thrown her into a wooden table, cutting her leg on the table.

Police found Ball, 25 of Sun Prairie, Wis. He cooperated with police and said he had shoved his girlfriend, not thrown her.

Ball was arrested on tentative charges of substantial battery, not domestic violence, as their relationship doesn’t meet the legal criteria of domestic violence because they don’t live together and don’t have a child together.

Ball was signed by the New England Patriots late in the 2015 season to their practice squad but did not play in any games. He was drafted by the Broncos in 2013 but was released in the 2015 season.
