DETROIT —  Two children found dead in their mother’s Detroit home Tuesday might have died years ago.

Now the mother is in custody as police and neighbors look for answers about what happened.

Balloons fly at the home of a mother and her four children. A banner on the door served as a place for neighbors to leave their sympathies.

But beyond the door, a horror nobody can imagine.  Two children were found dead in a freezer.

Residents of the Martin Luther King apartments reported the frozen boy, age 11 named Steven, and his sister, 14-year-old Stoney, were found after a bailiff served an eviction notice.

“Since she kept to the house all the time, we just thought, like, oh, they’re just in the house, chilling. That’s where they be. Or they’re at the store, or at their aunties or grandma’s,” a neighbor said.

At their grandmother’s house or aunt’s house is what police sources say the mother might have used as an excuse as to where the dead children were when neighborhood kids asked to play.

Sources also said  the mother, identified as Michelle Angela Blair, called “Angel” by her friends, has confessed to killing her children, then put them in her freezer, the boy in May 2012 and the girl nine months later.

Sources said the mother killed the two children after she said she found them sexually abusing the youngest boy. A woman knew of family abuse.

“I’m like, ‘Angel, why won’t you give the kids to me?’ She like, ‘Tori?’ I’m, like, ‘Why not just give them to me, we could have figured out something?’ She was, like, “they were raping my son, they were raping my son,” said Tori Childs, a neighbor.

Police sources close to the investigation said the bodies, which are thawing out in the medical examiner’s office, are showing signs of torture.
