ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — At least one adult and 11 children were injured, some seriously, when a vehicle was pushed into a Florida day care center by a Dodge Durango or a pickup truck, which then fled the scene, authorities said Wednesday.
John Mulhall, a spokesman for the Orange County Fire Rescue Department, said 12 people were transported from the KinderCare in Winter Park to hospitals.
The victims have a wide variety of injuries, Mulhall said.
Officials with the Florida Highway Patrol said they were looking for a silver or gray Dodge Durango or a pickup, which struck another vehicle from behind at about 3 p.m., sending it into the day care center.
The vehicle is missing a front bumper, Trooper Wanda Diaz said.
Highway patrol spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Monte said some of the injuries were “very, very serious.”
Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs repeated the plea for people to report any vehicle that fits the description of the vehicle that fled the scene.
“Together, we will find whoever is responsible for this, and those families need to know that this whole community is behind them,” she told reporters.
