DENVER -- With our busy  lives,  it can be hard to find time to grocery shop.  But there are some new grocery delivery and pick-up options available.

At our request,  Melanie Veliz decided to try grocery delivery from King Soopers and Walmart, who just recently started offering home delivery in the metro area in October.

The busy mother of four from Parker was very hopeful that this could help save her time.

“The thought of not having four kids with me while I’m going through a grocery store is fabulous,” she said.

The stores have different options.

King Soopers has a minimum purchase of $50, plus a $10.95 delivery fee for a two hour window.   That’s waived for your first order.

Walmart has a $30 minimum with a $7 delivery fee for a two hour window, and a $5 fee for a four hour window.  Drivers do not accept tips.

Ordering seemed pretty easy, and the stores say prices are the same online as they are in the store.  But Melanie was curious to see how everything would look when she got it, especially the produce.

She was pleased in both cases.  The produce looked good, and the refrigerated items were cold.

When we compared prices on eight items that Melanie bought at both stores. Walmart was cheaper.  Melanie did not use a King Soopers card or coupons, and shoppers can save using both of those online.

“I’m very impressed,” she said.  “This may save me so much time.”

She was willing to pay the delivery fee, but other people may not be.  For those people, Walmart has a brand new option.

You can place an order online and then schedule a pick up at the store.  That option is free.

Shoppers pull up to the designated area, and workers bring out the order and load it into the car.

That free service is now available at 29 metro area Walmarts.
