DENVER — A major retail coup is about to take place for the Pavilions Shopping Center on Denver’s 16th Street Mall.

The global chain Uniqlo is opening a 30,000-square-foot store there on Friday. It’s the first Denver store for the Japanese company.

Uniqlo sells casual wear for men, women and children.

Downtown Denver officials said it sends a strong message to other retailers.

“When we get an exciting retailer like Uniqlo, it sends a message to other retailers that this is a place to make your stake when you come to Colorado,” said Tami Door of the Downtown Denver Partnership.

Uniqlo has dozens of stores in the United States, but they are on the East or West coasts except for one location in Chicago and now, Denver.
