DENVER -- One of the last items on your Christmas gift list is probably a brand new automobile. But truth be told, it’s one of the best times of the year to negotiate a pretty good price on a new set of wheels.

And no, this is not a paid endorsement.

“Manufacturers set goals for the dealers at the beginning of each year and it’s this time of year that we really know how close we’re getting to the goal that was set for us,” said Audi Denver General Manager Steve Powers.

Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Volkswagon, almost every car maker need to sell inventory at year's end. They call it the year end push. “All dealers are trying to liquidate their 2015 inventory and get ready for the 2016’s that are coming in and also we’re real close to the year end forecast that we set at the beginning of the year.”

A word of caution, homework is not just for your kids. “It’s really important to know what you’re buying from a technology standpoint,” said Powers.

It’s also important to buy the features of the car and not just the incentives, you can’t drive a discount. “When people are at this stage of the buying cycle they’re thinking about the math, the discounts and the programs and not so much thinking about the automobile.”

So whether you've been naughty or nice, it really is a good time to get a good ride and a good price.

Zoom, zoom.
