DENVER — Eight metro-area Albertsons grocery stores were transformed into Safeway stores on Wednesday morning.

The move comes after the grocery giants merged in January 2015. Signs were changed overnight at the stores.

The stores that changed are at:

1200 S. Buckley Road, Aurora
6100 S. Gun Club Road, Aurora
323 S. Broadway, Denver
200 Quebec St., Denver
910 W. Cherry Ave., Louisville
8434 S. Kipling Parkway, Littleton
500 E. 120th Ave., Northglenn
3840 E. 104th Ave., Thornton

Albertsons and Safeway officials said more than $15 million has been invested in remodeling to update the stores. Most of the eight stores have already gone through significant remodeling.
