WESTMINSTER, Colo. -- Less than three weeks before a kidnapping attempt on the Ketner Lake jogging trail, a Westminster mother says a man with a similar description grabbed her son, and then fled when the boy's sister screamed for help.
That happened May 10 on a popular trail near Church Ranch Blvd. and U.S. Highway 36.
This information as police were already looking into whether the attempted kidnapping of a woman at Ketner Lake during Memorial Day weekend could have any connection to the Jessica Ridgeway abduction and murder.
The descriptions of the suspect from the Memorial Day incident, and the incident earlier in May are similar.
Ketner Lake is about a mile from Jessica's home.
Lisa Jameson says 8-year-old Chandler Jameson was playing with his toy gun on the trial when a man tried to kidnap him at about 6:30 p.m. May 10.
Lisa was on the phone with her 13-year-old daughter as it happened. "She's screaming, my son's screaming and her friend was screaming. She was crying and said some guy just grabbed Chandler."
The children told police the little boy was leaning against a guardrail on the trail when the man grabbed him and tried to pull him over onto the street.
"He kept squeezing my son's neck choking him out lifting him off the ground to lift him up over the railing," Jameson says.
The suspect ran south when the girls started screaming. Police dogs tracked him further down the trail, but lost the scent.
The attacker had thrown the toy gun in the creek that was right there, but police weren't able to get any fingerprints from it.
Jameson says the description matches the man who attacked a woman thr4ee weeks later at nearby Ketner Lake.
"It sounded like a very similar man. It's just that he was attacking a woman instead of an eight year old boy."
