LONGMONT, Colo. — The endangered 86-year-old woman who walked out of her home early Monday morning was found that afternoon, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Doug Lyle, a local helicopter pilot who was helping search for Elaine Hjartmen, found her near 6700 Nimbus Road around noon on Monday.

Just hours after she was reported missing, she was found about 3/4 of a mile away from her home.

“There are indications she has physical limitations that would inhibit her ability to travel. Elaine has memory issues, so it is hard to say how she will interact with anyone she comes in contact with,” reported Cmdr. Heidi Prentup from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

Elaine Hjartmen was last seen at 3:30 a.m. wearing a pink nightgown, an aqua robe and black slippers by her son who lives with her.

Crews alerted residents within a one-mile radius of her home that a woman was missing.

No details as to why she wondered off were available.
