JUAREZ, Mexico — The 36-year-old Brighton woman and her 11-year-old son who hadn’t been heard from since Sept. 1 were found in Mexico late Wednesday night, the Brighton Police Department said.
Paula Knapp, 36, and her 11-year-old son Casey left their Brighton apartment and were believed to be with Knapp’s boyfriend, Daryl Manuel Robb. Arrest warrants were issued for Knapp and Robb for child endangerment.
Police said Knapp and her son were found in Juarez, Mexico, after Brighton detectives followed leads they might be there with Robb.
Federal authorities were able to catch Knapp as she crossed the border back into El Paso, Texas, on Wednesday afternoon. She was arrested on a warrant for a child dependency case.
After being interviewed by Brighton detectives over the phone and federal authorities in El Paso, Knapp led officials to a motel in Juarez where Casey was located in a room with Robb.
Robb was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant for sexual exploitation of a child. Casey is in the custody of welfare services in El Paso, Brighton police said.
Knapp and her son were last seen at their apartment at 101 S. 20th Ave., and neighbors and friends grew concerned, saying Knapp left abruptly and leaving everything in her apartment.
