DENVER – Police are searching for two suspects involved in a fatal armed robbery Monday night near Green Valley Ranch.

Around 9:30 p.m., two armed masked men entered the O’Reilly Auto Parts store in the 5300 block of Chambers Road.

Police say a store clerk, 22-year-old Pablo Del Rio Jr., was shot as he tried to escape.

The suspects then fled the scene.

Police arrived to find Del Rio lying on the ground. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

“I want justice,” the victim’s father told FOX31 Denver. “If anyone has any information please come forward.” Family members say Del Rio was the oldest of four siblings. “He told me he would take care of me when I got older.”

“He was a very upbeat guy. He could always put a smile on your face, no doubt,” said the victim’s cousin, Daniel Aguilera.

Police hope surveillance video will provide a better description of the suspects.

A witness and employee of the business told FOX31 Denver’s Justin Joseph the whole incident happened “so fast.” Del Rio apparently chased one of the robbers when the robber shot him in the chest.

“I love him with all my heart. And he’s just looking out for me. He’s in all my prayers, said Jesus Espinoza, Del Rio’s cousin.

The Del Rio family has set up a fund at U.S. Bank under the name Pablo Del Rio.

The case remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
