BRIGHTON, Colo. — A man who was wanted in an armed robbery in Boulder County was shot dead by police in Brighton late Tuesday night after leading a chase that began in Longmont, the Brighton Police Department said.
Several law enforcement agencies were involved in the pursuit that ended in the 14800 block of Highway 85.
Police said the driver displayed a firearm after the chase ended, at which point officers fired their weapons. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Boulder County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Heidi Prentup said the suspect was the same man who committed an armed armed robbery in the 5200 block of Sunshine Canyon Drive in unincorporated Boulder County on Tuesday morning.
The suspect then led law enforcement on a high-speed chase in a 2012 Chevrolet Suburban through Boulder before the chase was called off near Broomfield because of dangerous driving conditions.
The Adams County Critical Incident Team closed Highway 85 in both directions between 136th Avenue and Bromley Lane to process the scene. The highway reopened just before 7:30 a.m.
