AUSTRALIA — A 62-year-old British man, who fought off a shark that was swimming near children, was fired as a result of his heroic deed.

According to KTLA, cameras recorded Paul Marshallsea using his bare hands to drag a six-foot-long shark away from kids at a beach in Australia.

As it turns out, Marshallsea was supposed to be out on sick leave. So when his bosses back in England saw the story on the news, they decided to terminate him.

In a letter, his employer told him “Whilst unfit to work, you were well enough to travel to Australia.”

They added that the incident led to a “breakdown of the trustees’ confidence.”

However, Marshallsea has countered by saying the vacation was doctor-ordered. He claims medical professionals advised him to get away from the office due to stress, and that he has the clinical documentation to prove it.
