DENVER — A man visiting his wife and newborn son was just about to leave Rose Medical Center on Friday afternoon when an announcement came over the public address system “to take shelter.”

Allen Cowgill took that seriously.

He shared a photo that he took from inside the maternity ward room after he shoved a 400-plus pound hospital bed against the door.

While still sheltering in place, he spoke about his initial safety concerns for his family, and how impressed he was with the active shooter protocols taken by law enforcement.

“I know there are probably a lot of DPD guys out there and we’re just really grateful for Denver police and fire being out there. Even if it’s being extra cautious, you know, looking after us,” Cowgill said.

Cowgill said his wife, Kristin, and 2-day-old baby boy, William, can’t wait to be cleared to go home and get some rest.
