BOULDER, Colo. — A climber suffered serious injuries to his head, leg and arm in a fall Saturday morning, but managed to call for help on his cell phone, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Seth Franco, 21, was climbing alone in Chautauqua Park about 10 a.m., police said. Franco, who was not using safety equipment, fell some 40 feet from the First Flatiron, suffering serious injuries.

Franco was able to call 911. Multiple agencies responded, and Franco was successfully evacuated to Boulder Community Hospital. He was expected to recover.
