Man arrested in Thornton following early morning bar shooting

DENVER — One man was arrested Sunday in Thornton in connection with a shooting following a bar fight, the Thornton Police Department reported.

The fight broke out shortly before 1:30 a.m. at Chamucos Bar in the 8600 block of Washington Street in Thornton. As a group of three males and two females was being escorted from the bar, one person pulled a gun and fired several shots. A 45-year-old man was hit and evacuated to a hospital with serious injuries. He remained under medical care Monday.

Later on Sunday, police surrounded a residence thought to belong to the shooter in the area of Creekside Place Apartments, 9189 Gale Blvd. Residents reported seeing a police tactical team at the scene.

Mario Oliveros, 38, was arrested without incident and has since been transferred to the Adams County Detention Facility.
